College of Visual & Performing Arts
OVERVIEW

It is the vision of the USF College of Visual & Performing Arts to achieve national and international recognition as a distinguished center for the study, creation, and research in the arts. The College will be a visionary laboratory for the preparation of the next generation of artists, educators, scholars and audiences and will serve as a dynamic site for contemporary and traditional artistic creation and research in art, dance, music, and theatre.
For everyone, the arts are one of the major means for USF to distinguish itself as an educational institution, a research center, and as a partner with the Tampa Bay community. For many students, artists, and supporters, the arts are the University of South Florida.
The arts at USF are a collage of artistic disciplines and expressions. Included are three degree-granting schools - School of Art & Art History, School of Music, and School of Theatre & Dance - and two research and community-engagement units - the USF Contemporary Art Museum and Graphicstudio. All are involved in creative research and each educates, challenges, and inspires students for leadership in the arts.
As an integral part of the campus, the College of Visual & Performing Arts currently consists of seven buildings including two theatres, a recital hall, exhibition facilities, adjunct resources, and laboratory facilities. There are nearly 150 full-time faculty and staff, more than 1,000 students majoring in the arts, and more than 3,000 non-major students taking courses each semester. Additionally, nearly 14,000 visitors and patrons attend over 250 annual performances, lectures, symposia and exhibitions.

The College of Visual & Performing Arts offers bachelor's degree in studio art, art history, dance, music, music education, and theatre. Master's degrees include an MFA in studio art, MAs in art history, and music education, and a Master of Music in music performance, conducting, music theory, and jazz studies. The School of Music, in cooperation with the College of Education, offers a PhD in curriculum and instruction with a major in music education. In the near future, the College will launch a nationally oriented, limited-enrollment MFA in Dramatic Writing.
